Thousands of students participate every year in communities big and small, for the opportunity to win prizes or scholarships to postsecondary institutions.

  • improves their speaking and pronunciation skills;
  • offers them the experience of speaking French in public;

Concours d'art oratoire 2026!

CPF Ontario is delighted to present the 2026 Concours d’art oratoire, the largest French public-speaking event for Gr. 9-12 students studying French as a Second Language (FSL) in Ontario.

The 41st annual event will be held on Saturday, May 2nd, 2026, at Glendon Campus, York University in Toronto. We are so looking forward to our next in-person event!

This is an opportunity to help integrate public speaking into a regular classroom activity and celebrate the outstanding French language arts achievements of students from across the province.

Our 41st annual Concours d’art oratoire is organized by the Ontario Modern Language Teachers’ Association and Canadian Parents for French (Ontario).

This annual French public-speaking event is for students from Grades 9 through 12 studying French as a Second Language in Ontario schools in the following four categories: Core, Extended, Immersion and Francophone.  Students in Grades 9 through 12 participate in the competitive Traditional or Impromptu Concours format for cash prizes and scholarships!

Concours d’art oratoire – In-Class Activity with new Impromptu resources!

The Concours provides a structured opportunity for students to build confidence and develop public speaking skills in French. As an in-class activity, teachers can integrate it into their FSL curriculum to:

  • Support spontaneous oral production skills and practice
  • help prepare FSL students for the DELF certificate
  • Encourage critical thinking and organization of ideas
  • Foster creativity and self-expression in French

Students prepare and deliver a short speech on a chosen topic, which can be presented first in the classroom and then at school or board-wide events.

The cost of the Impromptu resources is $500. CPF Ontario provides your school board with everything needed to deliver this engaging activity for students in Grades 4–8 and 9–12. Schools may choose to participate in the Traditional Division, the Impromptu Division, or both. Each student will receive a participation certificate, and medals will be awarded to the top three winners.

The resources provide also a great opportunity to prepare Grades 9-12 students for our Traditional and Impromptu Concours d’art oratoire provincial, held in-person at Glendon Campus, York University on May 2nd, 2026.
