Ottawa, October 5, 2021 — Canadian Parents for French would like to thank and recognize every teacher that contributes and impacts our lives as we observe World Teachers’ Day 2021. We must recognize the effect that the pandemic has had on education and on teachers, as well as the steps that need to be taken to ensure that teaching personnel develop their full potential to play the role expected of them in recovering from the pandemic.

Canada is already managing French as a Second Language teacher supply issues in many provinces and territories. For months now, teachers have played a key role implementing many innovative practices to support learning French remotely and providing resources to encourage their students and support their learning. CPF is calling on governments and the international community to focus on the situation of teachers around the world and the challenges facing the teaching profession, and to share effective and promising policy responses including sustained investments in teacher recruitment and retention initiatives.

World Teachers’ Day has been observed since 1994 by UNESCO and is an important day to thank and recognize teachers for the vital contributions they make to education and development. This milestone date is recognized with a unique theme every year, this year being “Teachers at the heart of education recovery,” focusing on the support teachers need to contribute to the recovery process after more than a year and a half in a pandemic.

For its part, Canadian Parents for French, National has a role of creating an overarching public education campaign, focused on the primary purpose behind choosing a career in teaching, that of positively impacting others. While CPF Branches are rolling out several public awareness campaigns to attract students to consider a career as French teachers.

My Raison D’être reminds us that teaching is about more than sharing knowledge. It’s about making a difference and impacting the lives of students for the better. Teaching in French is no different. The passion that drew teachers to the profession transcends languages. CPF invites Canadians to embrace their raison d’être, to consider teaching and spend every single day setting students up for success, growing as a teacher, and opening eyes to the importance of the French language. FSL teachers are vital to shaping Canada’s future.

On this special day, join us, Canadian Parents for French, the Canadian Teachers’ Federation and its member organizations in over 100 countries, in celebrating World Teachers’ Day. Thank your child’s classroom teacher, and especially your school’s FSL teachers. Show them we all recognize and appreciate the work they do every day!  UNESCO encourages everyone to use these official hashtags for sharing content on social media, #WorldTeachersDay and in French, #JourneeMondialeDesEnseignants..
