General Program Information

Who is the program for?

The CPF Virtual Tutoring program was created for parents who made a commitment to have their children learn French. The program provides students from 5 to 14 years old with additional support for their French language learning journey.

How does it work?

  • The French tutoring program runs for six weeks (May 22 – June 30)
  • Participants will work one on one with a tutor on a weekly basis, with the possibility of group sessions (1 tutor and 2 students).
  • Sessions are 1 hour long and will take place virtually via Skype. For example, if you select a 4pm EST slot, the session will run from 4-5pm EST.
  • Strong internet connection, a computer, camera and microphone are required.
  • Refunds will not be issued for failure to attend one or more tutoring sessions without notice.
    • Refunds for legitimate reasons will be processed on a case-by-case basis.
  • This program is open to CPF members across Canada. The service is offered at a $30.00 fee and and membership is required to participate in the program.
  • Siblings should NOT be in the same room during the same session time. Parents/caregivers should be nearby to support the student if there are any issues or technical difficulties. Students should be in a quiet environment. Missed sessions will be made-up as a grouped session (your child and another child to work with one tutor). However, due to a volunteer base schedule, this is not always guaranteed.
  • Students who miss 2 or more sessions without notice will be removed from the program, without refund.
  • Students will have a different tutor each time, this allows students to hear different accents from all over the world and the country.
  • Timeslot selection is final. All timeslots are in Eastern Time as the program runs in this timezone.

What do students work on?

Tutors come to each lesson prepared with a variety of fun-filled activities that are both engaging and instructional on a specific, interesting topic! Students will work on activities related to reading, writing, speaking, and listening in French. If there is spare time within the one-hour session, students can ask for help on their French homework.

As we are a 100% volunteer-based program, we cannot guarantee a session every week, but it is our goal to make sure your child has weekly sessions, whether individually or with another student!
